CHANNAHON, IL — At the time of Kurt Liebermann's first of two DUI arrests so far this year, the off-duty Channahon firefighter-paramedic had his 7-year-old child riding inside his pickup truck that contained open alcohol and three loaded guns, according to police reports.

On Jan. 18, Channahon police arrested Liebermann on charges of DUI, having open alcohol, improper lane use, failure to signal and endangering the life or health of a child.

On Tuesday, Will County State's Attorney's Office spokeswoman Carole Cheney told Patch that prosecutors are still reviewing the case and that formal charges will be filed at the time of Liebermann's upcoming court hearing in March.

According to police reports obtained by Joliet Patch, the following events led to Liebermann's arrest on Jan. 18:

Liebermann Suspects Lallos Bar 'Said Something'

At the time of his traffic stop, Liebermann told the officer, "Lallos probably said something."

The officer saw Liebermann's 7-year-old child in the rear passenger seat of his truck.

"I got three firearms in here," Liebermann told the officer.

The officer recognized Liebermann as being on the Channahon Fire Protection District from prior calls he's assisted the fire department.

"I asked Kurt where he was headed. Kurt stated it was his daughter’s birthday, and he was dropping his daughter off at an address off of Keating Boulevard. As Kurt spoke, I smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath. I also observed Kurt to have slurred speech and bloodshot, glassy eyes. I asked Kurt how much he had to drink tonight."

"You had nothing to drink tonight?"

“So if you blew into a PBT, you would blow all zeroes then?”

"Yeah," Liebermann told the officer. “Yeah, I got my kids tonight, I would blow all zeroes.”

The officer asked if Liebermann would take a preliminary breath test.

"No. I’m not doing that. I know better than that," Liebermann answered.

After Liebermann furnished his driver's license, three more Channahon police officers arrived to the call.

"As soon as Kurt stepped out of his vehicle, he immediately requested to speak with a supervisor or sergeant. I also observed two handguns in the driver’s side door. I informed Kurt he would not be allowed to talk to him yet. I had Kurt step to the rear of his vehicle."

The arresting officer asked where he was coming from.

The officer asked where dinner was.

“None of your business,” Liebermann snapped.

Liebermann was asked a second time how much alcohol he drank.

The officer asked if Liebermann had any open alcohol in his truck.

Liebermann Spits Chewing Tobacco On Police Car

Liebermann refused to take a preliminary breath test after performing a standard field sobriety test that involved reciting part of the alphabet, counting backward, walking, turning as well as raising one leg into the air.

"Based on my observations of Kurt, I believed I had probable cause to arrest Kurt for driving under the influence of alcohol," Officer Nelli wrote.

At 8:46 p.m. Liebermann was put in double-locked handcuffs.

"While in the rear of my patrol vehicle, Kurt had chewing tobacco in his mouth and was spitting on the rear passenger door," the officer wrote. "Kurt had two sealed Fireball whiskey shooters on his person."

Channahon police called Anderson's Towing to impound Liebermann's truck, which had four guns inside it. Three of the four guns were loaded with a live round in the chamber. Both Glocks were in the driver's side door. The CZ Scorpion was between the front driver and passenger seats. The Moda was in a range bag in the center of the backseat, with a loaded magazine.

An open bottle of Dr. McGillicuddy's Cherry Liqueur was found in the center console, along with two unopened Busch Light beers, and two opened Fireball whiskey shooters.

Liebermann gave police permission to hand over his four guns to someone he knew with a valid FOID card. Liebermann's ex-wife came and got their child.

Meanwhile, back at the police station, Liebermann made the following statements, according to Channahon's police reports of his DUI arrest:

"I'm f*****. This ain't right. This ain't right at all. I've done more for this community than anybody has in their entire life."

Liebermann told police he had two beers at Lallos and left.

"You can check my receipt. That’s horse***. Now my kids are going to get taken away and everything else. Total f****** horse****. You guys f***** me. You guys f***** me. If I was drunk, I would be way more absurd. Can we deal with this some other way or no? Can you give me a warning?”

Liebermann also suggested he's gone out drinking with Channahon police and "you guys are different to each other. Do you know that? ... Nobody gets in trouble unless they’re not a cop. It’s nice to know that the fire department and cops can get along great. Yep, It’s pretty cool. We used to respect each other, but now there is nothing. The s***** thing is, the fire department can’t do anything to you guys. But you can do everything to the fire department."

Liebermann Vows To Hire Private Investigators To Go After Channahon Police

Arrest reports from Jan. 18 indicate Liebermann told three Channahon police officers he plans to hire private investigators to go after them.

“I’m gonna show up to the court date, and then I’m gonna hire P.I.'s for each one of you mother******* ... They’re gonna be PI's on everybody. You think I’m joking? You think I’m f***** joking? Because everyone’s a saint here. Right? Everybody’s a saint. You tested me, now I’m gonna test you.”

As Liebermann left the police booking room, he shouted, "P.I.'s! P.I.'s, sons of bitches," according to police.

Channahon police later contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services regarding the incident, and a Clear and Present Danger form was completed and faxed to the Illinois State Police, the arrest report outlined.

Last week, Patch broke the news that Liebermann got arrested for a second DUI in three weeks, this time in Plainfield near Route 59 and Naperville-Plainfield Road.

On Feb. 6, around 12:35 p.m., someone driving behind Liebermann's black truck called 911 after Liebermann almost crashed into a street pole, according to Plainfield police reports.

A Plainfield officer spotted Liebermann's truck heading north on Route 59 near 143rd Street; the truck had one flat tire and the driver committed several traffic violations before pulling into a business parking lot, where Liebermann was arrested.

Why Did Lallos Employee Call 911?

Channahon police went back and interviewed employees at Lallos Bar & Grill as part of the investigation into Liebermann's first DUI arrest.

According to the police reports obtained by Patch:

Liebermann has a Will County Courthouse hearing on March 2 for his DUI arrest by Channahon police from Jan. 18. Liebermann has a March 16 court date at the Will County Courthouse related to his Feb. 6 DUI arrest in Plainfield.

A Channahon resident, Liebermann has been employed with the Channahon Fire Protection District for 17 years.
